Groot Letaba River Water Development Project – Nwamitwa Dam

The project involves the construction of a large storage dam with a gross storage capacity of approximately 187 million m3 on the Great Letaba River downstream of the confluence of the Nwanedzi River in order to provide for the ecological water reserve, domestic and irrigation water requirements. The principal components of the project include a clay core earthfill embankment, a roller-compacted concrete spillway, a stilling basin, outlet works, and the relocation of roads and bridges in the dam basin.
