Solar Water Initiatives Programme

The Solar Water Initiatives Programme is intended stimulate and accelerate the implementation of programmes such as the National Solar Water Heater (NSWH) Programme. The NSWH programme focuses on the replacement of electric geysers with solar water heaters (SWH) in residential households through partnering with the insurance industry and banks; and Scale up the installation of rooftop solar PVs for residential and commercia l use (distributed energy generation). The upscaling of the programme will alleviate pressure on the national energy grid by reintroducing a demand-side management, increase the demand for solar energy generation and storage components and increase the demand for solar installation capacity. A pilot project is proposed for the roll out of the NSWHP in partnership with the private sector; using public funds that must be re-prioritized from other non-performing energy efficiency programs.
