Infrastructure South Africa (ISA) launched the third edition of the Construction Book at the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA26), held from 23 to 25 August 2026 in Cape Town. The publication features 110 infrastructure projects valued at approximately R395 billion across six sectors, with projects expected to enter procurement and construction over the next 12 to 18 months. The Construction Book aims to improve visibility of the national infrastructure pipeline, providing contractors, investors, financiers, suppliers and professional service providers with information to plan and prepare for upcoming opportunities.
The third edition highlights significant investment opportunities across South Africa’s infrastructure landscape, including transport and logistics, energy, water and sanitation, social infrastructure, municipal infrastructure and digital infrastructure. Municipal infrastructure accounts for 10 projects valued at approximately R112 billion, while the transport sector features 41 projects worth R81 billion. The energy sector comprises 29 projects valued at around R86 billion, and water and sanitation includes 18 projects worth R35 billion. Social infrastructure contributes 16 projects valued at R52 billion, while digital infrastructure features three projects worth approximately R28 billion. For the first time, the publication also includes Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, reflecting efforts to attract private-sector investment and expertise.
Beyond identifying upcoming projects, ISA intends to strengthen monitoring of the Construction Book pipeline through quarterly updates tracking procurement milestones, tenders issued, contract awards and construction commencement. This will help identify delays and constraints while improving transparency and accountability throughout the infrastructure delivery process. By strengthening project preparation, coordination and monitoring, ISA aims to support the transition from funded projects to procurement and implementation, contributing to economic growth, job creation and improved service delivery.
