South Africa Champions Infrastructure-Led Growth at SPIEF 2025

St. Petersburg, Russia – June 2025

Infrastructure South Africa (ISA), operating under the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, joined the South African delegation to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 to emphasise the central role of infrastructure in driving inclusive growth and regional development.
Speaking at the B20 Regional Consultation Forum, Deputy Minister Sihle Zikalala highlighted the urgency of infrastructure investment across Africa to support trade, industrialisation, and sustainable growth. He noted that infrastructure is the foundation upon which inclusive economies are built and emphasised that it is key to mobility, competitiveness, and long-term development.

ISA continues to act as South Africa’s single point of entry for large-scale infrastructure development. It plays a leading role in identifying and coordinating Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs) that align with national priorities while delivering measurable outcomes for communities. These projects are designed to bridge rural-urban divides, strengthen regional trade corridors, and improve access to essential services.
As part of its continental mandate, ISA is actively contributing to the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by ensuring that infrastructure serves as the backbone of regional integration. Through this work, South Africa is positioning itself and the continent to participate more effectively in global trade and sustainable development.
